Remembering Sherry Gilles
Posted by Jools Barsky
We were so sad to hear about the death of our friend and long-standing Death Cafe supporter, Sherry Gilles, on 1st March 2021. I will leave you with them. Jools Sherry worked with Death Cafe almost since the very beginning; hosting Death Cafes in Chambana since 2013, as well as working closely with myself and Jon Underwood on the creation and curation of the Death Cafe Facebook. She was a very enthused patron of Death Cafe and helped anyone who was in need of support. Sherry’s good humor, love for others and outspokenness for the death positive community will be greatly missed. We are sending love, hugs, prayers and positive thoughts to her family and friends at this time. Please join us in lighting a candle in her honor. - Megan Mooney Death Cafe Lead, USA
After taking over Death Cafe following the death of Jon Underwood in 2017, Sherry was one of the first Death Cafe hosts that got in touch, and helped me to find my feet in a time of great turmoil.
As someone who worked with Sherry for a number of years prior to me taking over, I asked Megan, our Death Cafe Lead, USA, to write a few words to remember Sherry.
