About this Death Cafe
Death is inevitable, and yet it is often a taboo subject. It is not an everyday topic of conversation and it is sometimes hard to know with whom, and where, we can have these tender conversations freely. We believe that open conversation increases our awareness of death such that we, and the communities we live in, become more familiar and confident with what is happening, what can be expected and what choices we have when we come to experience our own death or the death of others.
What to Expect:
Our Eastbourne Death Café provides a community space for people to get together and discuss death, dying and end of life, honestly and freely. A Death Café is not a grief support group or counselling session, what we offer is an inviting, relaxed and respectful space for open discussion, without agenda, alongside nourishing food and drink.
Everyone is welcome and can just turn up on the evening.
Attendees are invited to purchase their food/drink and settle in a seat at small tables with three-five other people. We will start the Eastbourne Death Café with introductions from the hosts and then its over to attendees to introduce themselves on their tables and say what brings them to the Death Cafe. We hope this will be followed by lots of discussion and reflections as we share conversations together.
At the end everyone is invited to share anything they want others to know, and after a few closing words, the Death Café will end.
Eastbourne Death Cafes will be held on the first Monday Evening of every other month from the 06th February 2023, so if you have anything further to bring or would simply just like to share space and explore with likeminded people again, you are always welcome!
