About Death Cafe Baltimore with Valerie & Monica. :
Val Sirani is a Certified Hospice & Palliative Care Nurse who primarily works as a Palliative Care consultant in the Skilled Nursing Rehabilitation setting.
Ms. Sirani graduated from The College of New Rochelle in 2008 at the young age of 46 with a BSN. That was exactly 14 years after she received her Masters of Science in Counseling.
As a child Val would bring injuried animals home, very near death, for her mom to help.
Val experienced her first disappointment in humanity as a 10 year old girl when her older cousin Albert was stomping on ants just because.
Valerie contributes her begining knowledge about life and death from her grandfather who loved nature. They would walk through the woods in Chatham, New York were she says "he taught me to be me". Ironically, he hunted and trapped to keep his family going during the depression. There was a balance of life and death that formulated from these lessens.
Val hopes that her service to the Death Cafe Movement will bring others closer to the love of the very fragile nature of life itself.
Valerie & Monica are continuing the Death Cafe Baltimore tradition with Val & Amy's support and well wishes!
What brings you to Death Cafe?
Val and Amy both met Lizzie Miles at an ADEC (Association of Death Education and Counseling ) conference. Soon after the conference Lizzie came upon Jon Underwood and the Death Cafe Movement. Ms Miles had such a wonderful experience becoming the USA's Death Cafe inspiration. Amy and Val were in quick pursuit to spread the word.
Valerie Myers & Monica Murphy met Val and Amy at Death Cafe Baltimore, and have been continuing the discussion with their support and well wishes.
What would you like your legacy to be?
Val hopes that she will make a difference with the time here leaving memories behind that fill the belly with laughter as well as the heart with a smile.
Thoughts for sharing:
We hope that the pure nature of Jon Underwoods mission in promoting life by having the notion that life is finite is not used by people joining the movement to promote themselves or the organizations they work for.
Keep it simple and pure.

Death Cafe Baltimore was presented at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) on March 28, 2019, and was scheduled from 5:00-6:30pm. Two facilitators, Valerie and Monica, two university employees who hosted the event, and twenty-five students and members of the community attended the meeting to discuss death & dying. Refreshments were provided, and the attendees were seated at separate tables throughout the room. They used some "ice breaker" questions to simply get the conversation started.
The attendees engaged in conversation for some time, and then a collective discussion took place. The attendees asked questions about advance directives and the status of "death with dignity" laws in some ...

September 14, 2013 found fifteen Baltimoreans along with one traveler that hailed from Newark, Delaware gathering for Death Cafe Baltimore. Death Cafe Baltimore's venue was at the Atwater's Belvedere Square location. A philosophical discussion on the finite nature of life transpired over a 2 hour time slot. The discussions that transpired shed light on living itself.
Participants ranged in age from 35 to 85 +. The participants gathered into small groups where members delved into a two hour discussion forum on variable elements relating to death. Without much need for the icebreaker questions provided by hosts the two hours flew by quickly.
One group started their discussion ...
