South-East Brisbane Death Cafe - 8 August 2019
A write up of South-East Brisbane Death Cafe
By Jacqui
8 Aug 2019 On our national Dying2Know Day we had a total of 11 attend our August South-East Brisbane Death Cafe (8/8/19) . Once again it was a very diverse group of both curious and interested people wanting to talk about all things death and dying... The feedback from participants continues to be positive as we strive to deliver a Death Cafe that would make founder (the late) Jon Underwood proud of. So what did we talk about?
- advance care planning and family discussions (exploring with not just ageing parents but also with our adult children as we age)
- DonateLife - organ and tissue transplantation and donation of our bodies to science
- What is a Living Wake and how it can enrich the dying process but also the grieving process for those who lose a loved one to death
- Grief and Dreams
- What happens when you don't have a Will
- Compassionate Communities and how we can influence the community connections around life, death and dying
- What is an End of Life Doula and the role they can play?
- The funeral industury
- What is Dying2Know Day about?
- And good movies or TV series about death and dying that can engage, enlighten, teach and sometimes make us laugh
This is our 3rd Death Cafe this year and I'm always delighted to learn from others; and enthused to see how valuable these discussions can be particularly for anyone who may have specific questions they wish to discuss and then go away and think about further.
Bring on October!
