Manly NSW Death Cafe

As our September Death Café commenced in our usual meeting space, the Creative Library, I was struck by the fact that it seemed as though it was only yesterday that we had met as a group. Which then made me think of the passage of time, and how our understanding and experience of that seems to change across the lifespan, that is, as we live out our lives. Why is this, I wonder? Is it time that changes, or is it us? Is it our changing sense of self which in turn seeps into our way of being in the world/ which is the cause?
This metaphysical musing led us into another discussion about funerals, one recently passed and two upcoming and about the legacy we leave behind us. How are we remembered? Is it in the memory of those around us of our deeds, our actions? Is it in the physicality of our children and grandchildren perhaps? What footprints do we leave behind for others to see, or to follow?
Our discussion led us to the influence of anomalous experiences experienced by children, including the notion of reincarnation, many accounts of which have been researched and made public. According to the shared experiences, it seems that children are perhaps more ‘open’ to these things, hence their ‘imaginary friends’ or their accounts of not being ‘of this world’ or, adults’ observations of them being ‘off with the pixies’.
Is the veil between the material and immaterial universe thinner in childhood as is our ability to straddle those two worlds. I wonder …
